Abstract:
One of the problems encountered during machining of flexible parts, such as turbine and compressor blades, is vibrations of the part and the cutter. The vibration deteriorates dimensional accuracy and the surface finish of the part. In practice, the method of trial and error is used and after damaging several parts and cutters optimum cutting conditions are obtained. In this research milling operations of a flexible part is simulated using a developed comprehensive model comprising of the following modules: 1) solid modeling of milling operations 2) dynamic- regenerative model of milling process 3) Finite element model of tool-spindle and workpiece. Prior to any machining operation, the comprehensive model anticipates the optimum cutting conditions and simulates the vibrations and part surface roughness.
